John Watson

Artist Statement:

My current work comprises an ongoing, evolving inquiry into formal and conceptual interrelationships, taking the form of photographic collage. With an appreciation of both quintessence and complexity, the work aspires to find harmony, rhythm and beauty within natural and man-made environments. Using digital photography, computer assembly and archival digital output, these collages are influenced by years of pastel on paper collage work, previous photo collage work incorporating precise hand-cutting and assembly, and an interest in contextual relationships not available in single-image photography. I am delighted by the process of taking things apart and putting them back together in a new way.

For over thirty years, John Watson has been committed to multiple visual disciplines, including fine arts, photography and graphic design. Working concurrently has provided opportunities for one project to influence another, and the ambition of remaining curious and awake. Aesthetic interests include beauty and rhythm, subtlety and simplicity.
