Artist Statement:

These paintings are gouache and ink on paper. The subject matter I deal with is mostly walled gardens with enclosing big hedges, boxwood hedges,  and bushes clipped into shapes with the wildness beyond.  Shapes that people struggle to make and maintain in gardens signify how people try to control by trying to order and change the permanence and recurrence of nature with fences keeping the world out, creating sad privacy.
