Liz Maxwell

Artist Statement:

I work mainly in painting and printmaking, also doing mixed media, work on paper, and sculpture.   The motivations inspiring my artwork change over time, both with respect to materials and manner of working, and my ideas about what I want to convey change as well.  For years, both my paintings and my prints contained literal references, such as paintings of musicians, and prints containing miscellaneous designs based on elements of nature.  Lately I have become more interested in representing abstractions of literal reality.   Color and texture are always important in these paintings, and I often work them over and over until I think they convey a satisfying mood and impression.
