I investigate "drawing" with various natural and man-made materials, including wire, steel rods, black silicone and found detritus as well as seeds, pods, branches, lichen and moss (to name a few of the materials). This can result in flat or 3-dimentional sculptures which are minimal or reductive. Sometimes these sculptures come together in installations.
Mary Andrews was born in the Midwest and gravitated to the West, eventually landing in California. She holds an MFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and has exhibited in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York, Wyoming, Tokyo and Tel Aviv. She recieved an NEA Fellowhip grant in 1989, and was awarded Djerassi Artist Residencies in 1998, 2008 and 2010.
